CONCEPT
Two very similar vestments are the roquet and the surplice. Both are similar to the Alb, but shorter. They are worn over the cassock, but are not tied with the girdle. Despite these similarities, they are different. The key to the difference is in the sleeves: the roquet has long and narrow sleeves, while the surplice has them wider and shorter.
The surplice can be used by all clergy to administer the sacraments, and it is also part of the choral habit of deacons, priests, chaplains of his holiness and of the prelates of honor. Even acolytes can wear it.
