CONCEPT
Two very similar vestments are the roquet and the surplice. Both are similar to the Alb, but shorter. They are worn over the cassock, but are not tied with the girdle. Despite these similarities, they are different. The key to the difference is in the sleeves: the roquet has long and narrow sleeves, while the surplice has them wider and shorter. The roquet, on the other hand, is a vestment of dignity that is dressed with the choral habit by the canons, the superior prelates of the Roman Curia, the auditors of the Roman Rota, the general promoter of justice or defender of the bond of the Apostolic Signatura, the apostolic protonotarians, the clergy of the apostolic chamber, the bishops, the cardinals, and the pope”. (cf. Liturgia Papal).
