Black Skullcap SL002. The skullcap is a silk cap worn by bishops and other clerics. Made of excellent 100% cotton fabric.
CONCEPT
The skullcap is a silk cap worn by bishops and other clerics. The bishops wear it purplish; the cardinals red; and the Pope, white. The name derives from the expression "soli Deo", that is, only before God. Therefore, they should always wear it and take it off before the Blessed Sacrament. At Mass, they should take it off at the beginning of the preface and put it back on after Communion. Cardinals and bishops also remove their skullcap when they greet the Holy Father, as a signal of respect. Presbyters who are bishops-elect (appointed, but not yet consecrated), usually wear the purplish skullcap when celebrating Holy Mass. In some places, when the news of their election is made known, they receive the skullcap from another bishop.
