The Amice is a non-mandatory vestment, being more functional than properly liturgical. It is made of fine white fabric, and worn around the neck to fully cover the shirt, and also to avoid damaging, with sweat, items such as stole and chasuble, which are not so easily washable. It can be used by priests, deacons and acolytes.
